Did an overdose of Flexeril nearly kill me in my car?
Patient's Query
I accidentally took too many Flexeril tablets last year. I got inside the car and fell asleep while parking. I found the parking spot, proceeded to put the car in park and fell asleep. I awoke to the sound of a lady's voice asking me was I ok. Since, I've felt really foggy and away from life. Less warmth and color to life, I think it has affected an area of my brain. I have since been worried about the overdose, did I actually die and awake or did I just fall asleep. Due to a lack of insurance, I haven't been able to see a doctor. I'm curious if it causes death or just asleep. Also, I've never fallen asleep easily, not even while driving, if tired.
Answered by Dr. Vikas Patel
It's understandable to feel concerned after experiencing an episode like this. Flexeril, a muscle relaxant, can cause drowsiness and cognitive clouding, especially in higher doses. Symptoms such as feeling foggy or disconnected can occur, but are often temporary. It's unlikely that you experienced death; more likely, you were deeply relaxed or asleep. I encourage you to seek medical advice, as a psychiatrist can assess your symptoms and provide appropriate support. If insurance is an issue, look for community clinics that offer low-cost services.
