How can I help my toddler poop naturally?

Patient's Query

My daughter who is 20 months old hasnt pooped in the last 6 days...but doesnt show any sign of discomforts...Im trying to give her more liquid foods and she has her food also properly...what are the steps i need to take to make sure she poops..what are foods i need to include for her

Answered by Dr. Babita Goel

Don't stress if your 20-month-old hasn't pooped for 6 days but seems okay. Constipation is normal for kids. You're right to offer more liquids. Water, prune juice, pears are good options. Whole grains, veggies, beans may also assist. Keep her active. If she still doesn't poop after trying these, it's wise to see a pediatrician.

Hi! I just started wetting the bed two nights in a row. My friend gave me one of his kids Huggies 4t-5t Pull Ups to try. I tried one on and it fit perfect actually since I am small for my age. I woke up wet today. I also have tried out a pacifier that they gave me for better sleep for a few nights.

Male | 26

Bedwetting as an adult can be due to various reasons like stress, urinary tract infections, or other medical conditions. It's important to see a urologist to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. Using pull-ups or pacifiers may help in the short term, but consulting a specialist is the best step for a long-term solution.

My son 9 yrs old. He does competitive swimming. In last Feb, after xray doctor has told that he has 50% enlargement of adenoid. He allowed to do swimming. Child suffer cold almost once every month. Today also we checked thru endoscopy. It is still 50% as per doctor. Should we continue swimming or we need to stop..we need second opinion

Male | 9

Sometimes having enlarged adenoids can make them more susceptible to cold. Perhaps swimming is a factor that irritates his adenoids. It is important to ensure his health is not sacrificed for his swimming hobby. I suggest giving a short break to him swimming and observing whether his adenoids get better. This might help him get less affected by cold.

Summary of Health Issues (Imran) 1. Weak Immune System: Imran's immune system is not functioning optimally, leading to frequent health issues and recurring infections. This is related to a weakened white blood cell (WBC) response, making it difficult for the body to fight off illnesses. 2. Difficulty Expelling Phlegm: Imran experiences a productive cough with thick, sticky phlegm that is hard to expel. Despite frequent coughing, the mucus does not clear easily, causing irritation in the throat and discomfort. 3. Chronic Respiratory Issues: Imran suffers from persistent cough and phlegm production. The cough and phlegm production have been ongoing for some time, and the mucus is thick and difficult to expel, indicating potential respiratory issues like bronchitis or other infections. 4. Increased Body Heat: Imran has a high body temperature, which is often mistaken for fever. This is due to excessive radiation exposure from mobile devices, which has led to abnormal body heat regulation. The body has difficulty cooling down naturally. 5. Frequent Fatigue and Weakness: Imran frequently experiences fatigue and weakness, likely due to the compromised immune system and ongoing health conditions. The persistence of these symptoms affects daily activities and overall quality of life. 6. Throat Irritation and Chest Discomfort: The ongoing coughing and difficulty expelling phlegm cause throat irritation and mild chest discomfort, further contributing to the discomfort and fatigue. 7. Sensitivity to Food: Imran is sensitive to certain foods, which can trigger discomfort or irritation, possibly due to a weak immune system or underlying digestive issues. 8. Underdeveloped Physical Health: Imran's physical health is underdeveloped compared to his age. This includes a weakened immune system, ongoing issues with respiratory health, and lack of overall body development, which is linked to reduced physical activity and a lack of exposure to sunlight. 9. Recurring Health Issues: Imran’s body faces regular health problems, not limited to the respiratory system, and these issues appear to be interlinked with his compromised immune system, weak defense against infections, and environmental factors like mobile radiation exposure. --- This summary includes the major ongoing health issues that Imran is facing, including a weak immune system, respiratory problems, and other related health challenges. These problems need to be addressed holistically with both lifestyle changes and medical interventions.

Premature babies tend to have some delay in growth and development but will catch up later . Child needs detailed development assessment . There are specific parent questionnaire on development which parent can observe and answer . Child also needs formal hearing and speech assessment.
Extended or long screen times like cell phones / TV are best avoided .. as they have an impact on child s development.

Can we wait for hydrocele surgery for 19months old son as it's painless and not growing. It will be difficult to manage him post surgery as he is non verbal. Also we think it may resolve on its own.

Male | 19months

Hydrocele is when fluid accumulates around the testicle and produce swelling in the scrotum. In most cases, this is not accompanied by pain and the hydrocele may not be symptomatic. Sometimes, hydroceles can resolve on their own without treatment. Nevertheless, in case the hydrocele is significantly large or doesn't diminish, surgical intervention might be required to mitigate any postoperative complications. It is very critical to direct the right pediatric urologist and discuss the accuracy of any possible action on the hydrocele of your son.

This Rajendra from Nepal today I bring to you that my son is 7 year old. He has strayed high fever sudden i Took in the clinic which dr. Has giving som glucose and since 7 days he is not eating anything Please suggest me to what should I do he has very weakness he can’t stand all the sleeping only

Male | 7

It seems he may have a serious condition causing the fever and weakness. The glucose given by the doctor was likely to provide energy. Not eating for 7 days is quite concerning. It's important to take him back to the doctor for further evaluation and treatment. Meanwhile, ensure he stays hydrated and gets plenty of rest.

Diarrhea can lead to dehydration, especially in children, so providing fluids is necessary. You can give your child water but it's essential to do it in small, frequent sips rather than large amounts at once. You can also give ORS to help prevent dehydration.
